An eddy-permitting model of the Atlantic circulation: Evaluating open boundary conditions ArchiMer
Treguier, Anne-marie; Barnier, B; De Miranda, A; Molines, J; Grima, N; Imbard, M; Madec, Gerard; Messager, Christophe; Reynaud, Thierry; Michel, Sylvain.
As part of the French CLIPPER project, an eddy permitting model of the Atlantic circulation has been run for 22 years. The domain has open boundaries at Drake passage and at 30 degreesE, from Africa to Antarctica. The simulated mean circulation, as well as the eddy activity, is satisfactory for a 1/3 degrees model resolution, and the meridional heat transport at 30 degreesS is within the range estimated from observations. We use the "mixed" open boundary algorithm of Barnier et al. [1998], which has both a radiation condition and a relaxation to climatology. The climatological boundary forcing strongly constrains the solution in the whole domain. The model heat balance adjusts through the surface (heat flux retroaction term) more than the open boundaries....

ARGO based statistics for climate monitoring ArchiMer
Gaillard, Fabienne; Reynaud, Thierry; Von Schuckmann, Karina; Roquet, Fabien; Prigent, Annaig; Lagadec, Catherine.
The Argo array, by offering simultaneously global coverage and high vertical resolution, made the monitoring of inter-annual and decadal variability of the ocean interior possible. In the ARIVO project, we have initiated the production of gridded monthly fields of temperature and salinity using an optimal analysis tool and designed an iterative approach to combine near-real time and delayed mode data. The monthly gridded fields are averaged over time to produce the reference state needed by climatological studies, dynamical modeling and reconstruction methods themselves. Higher degree statistics such as variances and extreme values are later derived. Global indices (heat content, dynamical height) and corresponding error bars are also computed. Sensitivity...

Data Descriptor: Stable isotopes in the atmospheric marine boundary layer water vapour over the Atlantic Ocean, 2012-2015 ArchiMer
Benetti, Marion; Steen-larsen, Hans Christian; Reverdin, Gilles; Sveinbjornsdottir, Arny Erla; Aloisi, Giovanni; Berkelhammer, Max B.; Bourles, Bernard; Bourras, Denis; De Coetlogon, Gaelle; Cosgrove, Ann; Faber, Anne-katrine; Grelet, Jacques; Hansen, Steffen Bo; Johnson, Rod; Legoff, Herve; Martin, Nicolas; Peters, Andrew J.; Popp, Trevor James; Reynaud, Thierry; Winther, Malte.
The water vapour isotopic composition ( (H2O)-H-1-O-16, (H2O)-O-18 and (HHO)-H-1-H-2-O-16) of the Atlantic marine boundary layer has been measured from 5 research vessels between 2012 and 2015. Using laser spectroscopy analysers, measurements have been carried out continuously on samples collected 10-20 meter above sea level. All the datasets have been carefully calibrated against the international VSMOW-SLAP scale following the same protocol to build a homogeneous dataset covering the Atlantic Ocean between 4 degrees S to 63 degrees N. In addition, standard meteorological variables have been measured continuously, including sea surface temperatures using calibrated Thermo-Salinograph for most cruises. All calibrated observations are provided with...

Expédition OceanoScientific 2016-2017 : Etudes des mesures de température et de salinité de surface ArchiMer
Reynaud, Thierry; Reverdin, Gilles; Metzl, Nicolas; Griboval, Yvan.
The OceanoScientific Programm was initiated in 2006 and yielded the creation of a specific equipment : the OSC-System. The OSC-System measures physical parameters at the air-sea interface including Sea Surface temperature and Salinity. An OSC-System was installed on board of the OceanoScientific Explorer Boogaloo sailing ship. A cruise around the world was initiated the 17/11/2016 and ended 02/06/2017 including 60 days south of 40°S. Sea Surface temperature and salinity collected along this cruise are discussed in this technical report.

In-situ based reanalysis of the global ocean temperature and salinity with ISAS: variability of the heat content and steric height ArchiMer
Gaillard, Fabienne; Reynaud, Thierry; Thierry, Virginie; Kolodziejczyk, Nicolas; Von Schuckmann, Karina.
The In Situ Analysis System (ISAS) was developed to produce gridded fields of temperature and salinity that preserve as much as possible the time and space sampling capabilities of the Argo network of profiling floats. Since the first global re-analysis performed in 2009, the system has evolved and a careful delayed mode processing of the 2002-2012 dataset has been carried out using version 6 of ISAS and updating the statistics to produce the ISAS13 analysis. This last version is now implemented as the operational analysis tool at the Coriolis data centre. The robustness of the results with respect to the system evolution is explored through global quantities of climatological interest: the Ocean Heat Content and the Steric Height. Estimates of errors...

LOCODOX: a Software for Argo Oxygen data correction - User Manual ArchiMer
Thierry, Virginie; Brion, Emilie; Gallian, Marine; Reynaud, Thierry; Bouinot, Thomas; Lagadec, Catherine; Piron, Anne; Zunino Rodriguez, Patricia.
LOCODOX is a MATLAB based interactive software that corrects dissolved oxygen concentration data acquired by Argo profiling floats. The correction schemes are based on Takeshita et al (2013) and Bittig and Kortzinger (2018). Three types of correction are proposed : a pressure dependent correction, a time drift correction and a slope/ offset correction (also called Gain correction). LOCODOX works with Argo v3.1 netcdf files and provides files with corrected and well formatted delayed mode Argo data compliant with the Argo format (Argo Data Management Team, 2019).  LOCODOX corrects only oxygen data available in the vertical profiles. This document describes the methodology and the strategy followed by the tool, and it explains how to install and use LOCODOX.

Mesures de température et salinité de surface sur voiliers d’opportunité. Bilan 2014 ArchiMer
Reynaud, Thierry; Desprez De Gesincourt, Floriane; Gaillard, Fabienne.
Sea surface temperature and salinity measurements complete the ocean global observation network. Such measurements are installed on research and commercial ships. Observations are now obtained from voluntary sailing ships using smaller sensors. Some of these instruments also measured atmospheric parameters near the ocean-atmosphere interface. The oceanic data from the Oceanoscientific program and from NKE-STPS sensors were validated at the Laboratoire de Physique des Océans (LPO). This report summarizes the work done in 2014, the data validated and the behavior of sensors.
